Running a bed and breakfast can be quite challenging yet very rewarding. We meet new people from around the world in every occupation you can imagine and many you never thought of! Our diet restrictions are as diverse as the personalities coming to the table every day, and watching our guests enjoy their surroundings, their breakfasts and the ever changing ocean vistas make our days worthwhile. We get great satisfaction from the many oohs and aaaahs and of course revel in the accolades we receive as well. Where else could we receive so much praise for a job well done?
Rick and I have been in the accommodation business for over thirty-one years, eighteen years in a twenty one unit motel then thirteen years in the bed and breakfast. We have learned to make a bed, clean a room, clean windows, paint a room, master a telephone switchboard, run a computer, and learned to cook! While most of this may seem pretty standard for every household the challenges come in the diversity of each menu, each guest’s special requests or needs, and fitting in cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping and ‘us’ time in between the eleven o’clock check out and the three o’clock check in.
My interests are geocaching, travel, travel tips, real estate, reiki, aromatherapy. I enjoy our families and friends, new restaurants, new recipes (mostly breakfast!), cleaning and cooking tips. I am learning a bit of conversational French and will tackle a bit of Spanish next yearThis is an example of a WordPress page, you could edit this to put information about yourself or your site so readers know where you are coming from. Well this is amazing…to find such a wonderful page….and place too! Oh the story is long …let me summarize if possible.
It all starts with my hobby…well…okay I will call it a hobby. I love to cook…not so much bake but grin..I do it all. I started a blogspot last year after my mom passed away….she was the ultimate in cooking and baking…a great German Mennonite prairie woman. I found it therapuetic to journal my foray into the world of baking…cooking I love, remember? Baking…not so much…grin again!
Sigh…anyway…a B&B is in my futurel….always has been a dream of mine and I can see it fitting well into my lifestyle and needs as I head down that road towards a 55+ retirement. I love people and feeding them..grin. Moreover…I LOVE LOVE LOVE the west coast…always wanting to establish myself in Tofino or Ucluelet where I spend my holiday times two or three times a year…sigh. But it is getting toooo touristy and I am feeling at a loss….is that where I want to go?
Okay..I digress. So where am I going? Well, on my food blog I had a lady question via email if I knew about a Mennonite cereal called breakfast crunch and how she could make her own. I don’t know…but I googled breakfast crunch and THERE YOU WERE….with a yummy breakfast recipe…sort of using the ingredients I am thinking she would like. I will refer her to your recipe page. BUT…now I am thinking…whew…this is providence. As my only son is off to first year university this fall I have a plan…..to visit all the ‘other’ islands here on the West Coast…yes I know…I have been here from the Prairies for 22 years and still only made it to Vancovuer Island…sigh. So I want to B& B it on all the islands…to get a feel for the islands…to get a feel for the business…is this really me? I only have 5 years left working this 8 to 5 job….and then….well..I hope to retire to one of the islands with a B&B. Sounds too perfect.
ARGH!!!! I have gone on tooo much….must be because I am on a lunch hour and am hidden in my office….what a life! I am thinking I should maybe start my B&B journalling with a place such as yours…looks beautiful…love the blog and love the recipes…
Thanks for the ‘on and on’. Any suggestions would be most appreciated to be sure.
